Indian Philosophy describes Gandabherunda as a “Formidable, powerful bird with two heads.” Ganda Bherundasana is inspired by this powerful representation of immense strength for those who choose to practice it during their asana practice or meditate on it during their seated practice.
In Sanskrit, Ganda Bherundasana means: Formidable face posture.
This is an advanced backbend posture that can be prepped for even if you’re a beginner. The asana or posutral aspect of yoga all starts with where you are, no judgement, just play and curiousity. So, while a beginner would not jump right into this posture, a beginner could do postures like Cat Cow, forarm plank (Even modified with the knees on the floor), core exercises, simple shoulder openers, bridge pose, and more.
